DDS Program

The professional Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree is awarded by the College of Dentistry.

Admission Requirements

Completion of at least 90 semester hours of study (three academic years) at an accredited college or university is required. Preference is given to applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree or are pursuing a combined degree in which they will earn a bachelor's degree during their first year in dentistry.

Application Procedures

File an application with the American Dental Education Association's Associated American Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS) beginning June 1 of the year preceding the year for which you seek admission.
- Simultaneously send at least three (and no more than four) letters of recommendation and your official transcripts from each institution attended to the American Dental Education Association.
- Completed AADSAS applications and Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores must be on file by Oct. 1. Apply as early as possible, even before you take the DAT.
If your AADSAS application advances, you will be asked to complete a supplemental application to the UI College of Dentistry and schedule a personal interview.
Admitted candidates will begin to be notified Dec.1.
Applicants accepted before Feb. 1 must submit an advance payment of $500 within one month after notification of their acceptance. Students admitted after Feb. 1 must submit the advance payment within two weeks after their notification of acceptance. This payment is not refundable, but is credited toward tuition and fees for those who enroll.
